The Ministry of Energy and its Department was among 161 teams involving over 26,000 participants that participated in a march-past to mark Brunei Darussalam 36th National Day on 23rd February 2020. The Ministry's team, comprising of 100 participants was led by Yang Mulia Awang Haji Azhar bin Haji Yahya, Permanent Secretary (Energy).

The Brunei National Energy Research Institute (BNERI); the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS), and the Centre for Advanced Material and Energy Sciences (CAMES) under Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), in collaboration with the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) hosted a seminar entitled "'The Role of Hydrogen in ASEAN's Energy Transition" on 20th February 2020 at the Empire Hotel. Supported by the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications; the Ministry of Energy and ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation (COSTI), the event was opened by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mat Suny Haji Md Hussein, Minister of Energy.

Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Matsatejo bin Sokiaw, Deputy Minister of Energy attended the graduation ceremony of the Offshore Reliability and Maintenance Contract (ORMC) Welding School on 12th February 2020 at the Marine Construction Yard in Kuala Belait. The ceremony saw ORMC's Welding School's first batch of seven local students to complete welder training programme. Also in attendance was Dr. Ceri Powell, Managing Director of Brunei Shell Petroleum Sdn Bhd (BSP).

The Department of Electrical Services, Ministry of Energy unveiled new vehicles in a ceremony officiated by the Guest of Honour, Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Matsatejo bin Sokiaw, Deputy Minister of Energy. The ceremony was held on Monday, 10th February 2020 at the Department of Electrical Services' branch in Batu Bersurat.

The Ministry of Energy holds its First Strategic Retreat Session

The Ministry of Energy and associated Statutory Bodies ­­- Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (SHENA) and Petroleum Authority held a strategic retreat session with its Heads of Departments, Divisions and Units on Tuesday, 28th January 2020 at Panaga Club, Belait District. Organized by the Ministry's Strategic Planning Unit, the session addresses the Ministry's effort to strategize, align and further improve the Ministry's Strategic Plan 2020/2021. It also serves as a platform to share, discuss and provide recommendation on the Departments, Divisions, Units and Statutory Bodies' roles, initiatives and action plans for the next two years. The session was attended by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Mat Suny bin Haji Md. Hussein, Minister of Energy.

Department of Electrical Services awarded first Contract under i-Usahawan Programme

A contract signing ceremony under the i-Usahawan programme was held between the Department of Electrical Services (DES), Ministry of Energy and HanR Enterprise on 16th December 2019 at the Multipurpose Hall, Bahirah Building. The ceremony marks the first i-Usahawan contract awarded by a government agency. Attending the ceremony as the Guest of Honour to witness the signing ceremony was Yang Mulia Awang Haji Azhar bin Haji Yahya, Permanent Secretary (Energy) at the Ministry of Energy.
