On 6 November 2018, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr. Awang Haji Mat Suny bin Haji Md. Hussein, Minister of Energy, Manpower and Industry held an engagement session with over 40 Bruneians working at the Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd (BLNG) at the BLNG Main Building. Present during the engagement were Yang Mulia Awang Haji Azhar bin Haji Yahya, Permanent Secretary (Energy); Yang Mulia Awang Haji Zolkiflee bin Haji Abdul Karim, Permanent Secretary (Manpower); Yang Mulia Pengiran Haji Mohd Hasnan bin Pengiran Haji Ali Hassan, Permanent Secretary (Industry); Yang Mulia Pengiran Haji Jamra Weira bin Haji Petra, the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Power, IT, and E-Government); and Haji Mohd Jaafar bin Hj Awang Bakar, the Acting Managing Director of BLNG.

The session began with an overview of BLNG as a company by Haji Mohd Jaafar. During the engagement session, Yang Berhormat Dato emphasised on the continued importance of the oil and gas industry to Brunei Darussalam as a key driver of the national economy and on the importance of LNG in particular. Yang Berhormat Dato also touched on the interconnections between the Ministry's three focus areas, namely energy, manpower and industry, emphasising on the need to ensure that the local oil and gas industry runs as efficiently as possible while expanding the rest of the non-oil and gas industry, especially through Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs), in order to generate employment opportunities for Bruneians.

The engagement session also witnessed discussion between senior officials of the Ministry and Bruneians at BLNG on a range of pertinent issues, including efforts to maximise spin-offs and local value creation in the oil and gas sector, Brunei Darussalam's initiatives on climate action, and the sharing of progress on a number of key FDI projects in Brunei. The session ended with an emphasis on continued support among Bruneians in each other's professional development, be it through training, mentorship, and the sharing of experiences.

The engagement session was preceded by a short tour of BLNG's facilities, including the Control Room and various areas of the BLNG Plant by Yang Berhormat Dato and the delegation from the Ministry.

Following the engagement at BLNG, the delegation had the opportunity to have a brief discussion and presentation on the Hydrogen Demonstration Supply Chain Project at the project site within the Sungai Liang Industrial Park (SPARK). The presentation was led by Mr. Hideki Endo, President of the Advanced Hydrogen Energy Chain Association for Technology Development (AHEAD).
