One i-Usahawan contract with Brunei Shell Petroleum Co Sdn. Bhd (BSP) and two i-Usahawan contracts with Brunei Gas Carriers Sdn Bhd (BGC) were awarded in the first i-Usahawan Contract Signing Ceremony that was held today, 6th March 2019 at the Design & Technology Building, Anggerek Desa. Present as the Guest of Honour at the event was Yang Mulia Awang Haji Zolkiflee bin Haji Abdul Karim, Permanent Secretary (Manpower) at the Ministry of Energy, Manpower and Industry (MEMI).

Signing on behalf of BSP was Yang Mulia Awang Haji Husaini bin Abd Hamid, Head of Power and Amenities while BGC was represented by Yang Mulia Dayang Mizan Adiliah binti Hj Mohamad Deli, Human Resources and Corporate Affairs Manager. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Yang Mulia Awang Haji Zolkiflee bin Haji Abdul Karim, Permanent Secretary (Manpower) at the Ministry of Energy, Manpower and Industry.

Also in attendance were Yang Mulia Dayang Hajah Tutiaty binti Haji Abdul Karim, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Corporate and Industry); Yang Mulia Pengiran Haji Jamra Weira bin Pengiran Haji Petra, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Energy and Power) at MEMI; Dr. Ceri Powell, Managing Director of BSP; Mr. John Cook, Managing Director of BGC; Mr Vincent Dutel, Managing Director from TOTAL E&P Borneo; Pengiran Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Managing Director of Brunei Shell Marketing; Mr Haydn Ian Furlonge, Chief Executive Officer of Petroleum Brunei; Mr. Kaneshige Kubushiro, Chief Executive Officer of Brunei Methanol Company, Mr. Javed Ahmad, Chief Executive Officer of Darussalam Enterprise (DARe); Mr. Ainadin Cader, Chief Investment Officer of Darussalam Assets; Senior Officials and Representatives from the Ministry of Energy, Manpower and Industry and Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd.

Two Youth Entrepreneurs – Awang Mohammad Fathullah Fuad bin Awg Hj Abdullah, Managing Director of Mortar Events; Dayang Hajah Haryanie binti Haji Bujang from Munch Brunch Canteen were awarded contracts for the provision of Event Management and Cleaning, Manpower and Related Services respectively with BGC. While BSP awarded a contract for the provision of Canteen and Vending Machine Services to Dk Nur Saffanah binti Pg Rahim from Syarikat Amira Barakah.

These businesses secured their first contract with Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) and Brunei Gas Carrier (BGC) after participating competitively in the tender process and successfully completed the SME Training and mentorship programme. The duration of the contracts are for three years with possibility of extension. Throughout the contract period, the contract owners – BSP and BGC will further provide the awarded businesses with training and mentorship programme including the Energy Business Academy, operated by BSJVs and DARe's Industry Business Academy.

The Guest of Honour, Yang Mulia Awang Haji Zolkiflee bin Haji Abdul Karim, Permanent Secretary (Manpower) at MEMI in his welcoming remarks highlighted that "the i-Usahawan programme is created with the intention for our youth entrepreneurs to start their own businesses by giving them opportunity to participate in low-risk contracts, where they can secure their first contract on a competitive basis". He further added that 29 ring-fenced contracts have been identified from Oil and Gas Industry. Out of the 29 contracts, 3 contracts were awarded today and 5 more contracts will be awarded by BSP by April 2019.

i-Usahawan is a youth entrepreneurship development initiative by the Ministry of Energy, Manpower and Industry (MEMI) that targets existing and aspiring youth entrepreneurs between the age of 18 and 40 years old, who have yet to secure a contract with the Government, Government-Linked Companies (GLCs) or Statutory Bodies. The i-Usahawan Programme was launched by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on 1st August 2018, in conjunction with the 13th National Youth Day.
